- DIGITAL PRODUCT PASSPORT -
What is the Digital Product Passport or DPP?
The Digital Product Passport is an identification linked to each individual product unit. It’s something that the European Union plans to require from brands, mainly in the textile sector, to enhance traceability and transparency throughout the supply chain.
This mandate is expected to come into effect in a few years. However, we’ve decided to be ahead of the curve by implementing it early, sharing not only details about where our materials and processes come from but also some interesting facts and behind-the-scenes notes about the products.
We can’t reveal all the details, or else it wouldn’t be a surprise! : )
It’s important to note that our passport is contactless and its data is recorded on the blockchain.
What does it mean that it’s on the blockchain?
When a woven label is attached to a garment, the information is printed in ink, eliminating the possibility of future alterations.
However, digital information can be changed through internal processes. By recording the information on the blockchain, that digital data becomes like indelible ink.
Not only is it indelible, it’s also counterfeit-proof.
The information stored on the blockchain cannot be faked or modified.
How does it benefit me as a customer?
The fact that the information cannot be altered or counterfeited provides several benefits:
- You’ll have complete, reliable, and transparent information.
- Your item will have a full history recorded. For example, if it ever gets damaged and repaired, that repair will be noted in its Passport.
- Every Passport is verifiable, ensuring the authenticity of the piece. This means that, if you choose, you can resell your item with confidence on any luxury marketplace, promoting a circular economy. Buyers, in turn, will have the assurance that their product is genuine and will pay a fair price, knowing they’re not buying a replica.
How do I access it?
If you own a pre-collection product such as an Elara, you’ll receive a card with it that contains its DPP in the same contactless format as the rest of the product in our collection.
For items from the collection, you can access the DPP by placing your smartphone on the emerging star icon. If your phone supports NFC, a pop-up will automatically appear, allowing you to view your item’s Digital Passport.
Remember, your passport is unique to your item and is separate from any passport associated with an identical piece.
We understand that the Digital Passport is a relatively new concept, so if you have any questions, please get in touch. We’ll be delighted to help!
